The Best Feature of Design Space
Are you like me? Did you have no idea that the Snapmat feature existed in the iOS version of the Cricut Design Space App?
Let me introduce you to this exceptional feature. Snapmat allows you to take a photo of your mat (with paper or material already adhered), and then reposition your pieces virtually before cutting. This is most useful with scraps or precut materials. No more measuring or guesstimating where items might fit. And you can use every last bit of precious materials.
Directions:
- In the mobile app, open a project and select “Make it.” Scroll to the color you wish to cut. Click on the Snapmat option in the lower left of the screen. (Figure 1 above)
- Hold your phone or ipad parallel to the mat and match up the edge of the mat with the green guides. This is a bit fiddly, but keep trying until the mat fills the guide on screen. (Figure 2)
- Once the mat is framed correctly by your camera, the camera will automatically capture an image. Select “Use” in the upper right. (Figure 3)
- Within Design Space you are able to select each individual piece and drag it around virtually on your mat. This allows you to move each piece to a place where there is available material. To select the piece, click once to select it, and a second time to drag it.
Tips for Snapmat:
- I find it easiest to photograph the mat on the floor. And it’s quite fun to emphatically toss it to the ground.
- Sometimes the captures take a bit of patience. If it is simply not capturing, back up, back out of the capture and try again.
- This will not work for Print then Cut images.
